Java on Ubuntu

I was messing around with screen-cast software today and found that I needed to sort out both the Java Run-time Environment and Java Plugins for Firefox and Chrome on my Ubuntu machine.

This http://askubuntu.com/questions/48468/how-do-i-install-java was very useful.

Basically just run the following in Terminal and you’re good to go:

sudo apt-get install icedtea-plugin

sudo update-alternatives --config java

sudo apt-get install openjdk-6-jre

Then go to - http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp to verify that it's working.

Worked for me anyway.
